  • Improve Indoor Air With DIY Natural Air Fresheners

    Palm Air AC|27 October 2016

Looking to improve your indoor air quality with only DIY natural methods? Look no further. Nothing makes your space feel homier than a nice, fresh smell. However, it’s important that you either buy natural air fresheners or make your own. Traditional air filters contain harmful pollutants that lower indoor air quality. In fact, studies done by the National Resource Defense Council have shown that prolonged exposure to many of the common air fresheners can cause developmental and reproductive problems.

Keep your air safe and smelling good. Make your own air fresheners! Just try some of these DIY ways to keep your home smelling great!

    DIY #1: Simmer Pot

This is one of the simplest ways to fill your air with a great aroma. All you need is a small pot and a few ingredients. Simply boil a pot of water and add some nice smelling herbs and spices. You can put whatever you want inside the simmer pot, but if you’re in need of ideas, try lemon and rosemary. Just add one sliced lemon, a few sprigs of rosemary and half a tablespoon of vanilla. Let the pot simmer for as long as desired or until the smell has filled your home.

    DIY #2: Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers are a simple way to constantly keep your air smelling great. While you can buy your own reed diffuser, they can often cost anywhere from $40 to $60! This simple DIY version only requires a few everyday household items. All you need is a vase, baby oil, essential oil and a bamboo skewer.

First, fill the vase with your desired amount of essential oil. Next, fill the vase the rest of the way with baby oil. Finally, place the skewers in the vase and you’re done! You can also decorate the vase and skewers to match your home’s decor.

    DIY #3: Orange Peel Candle

Why not keep your home smelling great while you snack! Next time you’re eating an orange, don’t let the peel go to waste. Instead, turn it into a simple candle.

Start by cutting the orange in half. Take a knife and run it around the edges of the orange to separate the fruit from the peel. Next, use a spoon and scrape out any remaining orange from the peel. Be sure you DO NOT remove the stem directly in the center of the orange. Once you have removed the fruit, fill the peel ¾ of the way with canola or vegetable oil. Let the oil sit in the orange peel for around an hour. After this, your candle is ready! Hold a lighter to the stem of the orange. Burn the stem for around 3 minutes until it is brown or black. Then, try relighting the stem. It may take a few seconds to light, so be patient.
